Term 3 was VERY busy. Our BIG question was "how will I show respect for all cultures in my class?" We visited a local Marae to look at a different culture. We learnt games and a dance from different cultures. We have written poems, stories and have been doing lots of art from different cultures.

Tuatara

Ainsley's Nana visited Room 7 all the way from Invercargill. She told us about Henry the 100 year old tuatara. We have begun doing some report writing about tuatara. We also made some clay models and for our great tuatara pictures we added sand to give some texture to them. Have a look at them on the slide show and read some of our reports on tuatara.

A tuatara is a special creature in New Zealand. The tuatara has sharp teeth. The tuatara eats spiders, wetas, worms and birds. A tuatara lives under the leaves and under the ground. A tuatara is clever because it can see in the dark. By Aya

A tuatara is actually a reptile from when the dinosaurs were here. Did you know that tuatara can lay 6-8 eggs? They have green and brown skin so they can hide. Zero Waste

Room 7 like the rest of Katikati Primary School have been doing an inquiry about Zero Waste.
We have found out that all our rubbish goes to a landfill. It stays there until it rots away, which might be 75 years or never for some things. We asked how we could make less rubbish. We decided to have a worm farm and feed some pigs our food scraps and we are trying to use reuseable containers for our biscuits and chippies and to wrap our sandwiches in paper NOT gladwrap, otherwise it will not take long for our community to go from this beautiful park like scene to the rubbish taking over.

Integrity
Citizenship

Aya thought that ERIC helps us learn about Respect. Joshua said that Eric teaches us about being Excellent. Jessica said that ERIC shows us the right thing to do. Mrs Woods agreed because ERIC's name spells out our school values. E for excellence, R for respect, I for integrity and C for citizenship. The Junior School are learning a neat song about ERIC and our school values.

Life Education and Healthy Harold- VIP

We are Very Important People. We know that to keep being happy and healthy we need to eat healthy food, drink lots of water, exercise, get lots of sleep and of course we also need lots of love, shelter and oxygen! Because we are VIP's we need to keep ourselves safe.

During the beginning weeks of this term we have been looking at summer in New Zealand. Enjoy our writing and some art.

The best thing to do in summer is to go to the beach. At the beach you can make sandcastles and you can swim there. By Hamza
